How does that happen, what does it feel like and how do we get it? Good question and sometimes even when you do have confidence it can be shaken. You: being the sensitive Artist that you are, can be vulnerable, and that feeling of confidence can be destroyed by someone making a comment that is unkind and has not been thought out with any kind of compassion for you.
Sometimes; and I know it is hard to do; we have to let comments go if it is doing us more harm than good.
No one knows better than you do how hard you have worked to accomplish what you have.
Some people do not understand Musicians and Artists. We live our lives doing what we are called to do. Some will get rich and some will not but the measure of success comes from how you feel about your life when you wake up in the morning and go to bed at night! Are you happy? I know I am. I have been true to my calling my entire life!
Money is important; we have to have a roof over our heads, a bed to sleep in, food in our stomachs, and gas for the car so we can get to the gig, job, engagement what ever you want to call it.
Can we do what we love and find a way to make money doing it? I say YES!
Tell the person who’s trying to belittle your chosen profession that you are doing what you love and it is your life to do with what you feel you have been called to do!
It can’t all be about how much money you make. There is no fault in having to do what we have to do in order to make ends meet. Having another form of income unrelated to your music is not a bad thing if you need to do that in order to support your music career.
Now back to confidence
Practice, practice, practice, practice until you feel like you know what you’re doing. There is no getting around practicing so you might as well get into the habit of practicing. Practice with a purpose, flexibility, dexterity, and clarity of diction Practice with intent, learning the lyrics Practice with a goal, to sing with freedom and ease! Practice with a target, singing scales and intervals in the Key of the Song you are working on Make it a daily routine, same time every day if you can and trust me with time you will start to feel confident!
Confidence comes from knowing what we’re doing, knowing what we want, and knowing where we want to go!
Have fun and get practicing!
